The Lion in Winter (Fall 2024)
November 7-10 & 14-16, 2024 in Spanos Theatre
What's a little civil war among family? The Lion in Winter, by James Goldman, is a modern-day classic, comedic in tone, and dramatic in action, told through kings, a queen and would-be-queen, and three princes who want to be king.
Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, once the most powerful woman in the world, is allowed out of prison to spend Christmas with her husband, King Henry II of England, and their three sons. When the question of royal succession is raised, the plotting begins, alliances are formed, betrayals start, and knives are drawn. As Eleanor says, “Every family has its ups and downs,” and this royal family is no exception.
