The Theatre and Dance Department is part of the College of Liberal Arts and provides educational opportunities for majors in Theatre, minors in Dance, and in both areas for students from all other campus disciplines. 
 

Part-Time Lecturer Pool

 

The Theatre and Dance Department routinely seeks applicants for their part-time lecturer pool. Positions are available each school year based on need and funding. 

Assignments may include teaching courses such as: Introduction to Theatre, Theatre History, Improvised Narratives, American Theatre and/or Topics in Diversity on the American Stage, World Drama, Rehearsal and Performance, Music Direction and Vocal Coaching, Stage Management, Production Management, Sound Design and Engineering, and Technologies in Design and Technical Production.

Job Title: Administrative Student Assistant

Job description: The Administrative Student Assistant supports the daily operations of the Theatre & Dance Department by contributing to a welcoming, well-coordinated office. Working at the front desk and behind the scenes, the assistant helps ensure students and faculty get their questions answered and that the operations of the main office are being supported while the ASC is working remotely. Additionally, this role will be assigned to work on administrative projects as assigned by the ASC and Department Chair. This role requires professionalism, attention to detail, and a welcoming personality. The Administrative Student Assistants develop transferable skills in communication, organization, and operations while playing a meaningful role in the Theatre and Dance department. 

Required (or Preferred) Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: 

  • Good telephone voice; enthusiasm

Job Title: Social Media Student Assistant

Job description: The Social Media Student Assistant supports the Theatre & Dance Department by developing and scheduling content for our social media accounts in compliance with Cal Poly marketing regulations.This role works directly with the Associate Chair of the Department to develop a content calendar, brainstorm ideas, and post approved content. This role requires a creative mind, attention to detail, and a savvy for engaging audiences through social media. The Social Media Student Assistant's ability to maintain our brand plays a meaningful role in the outreach and marketing of the Theatre and Dance department. 

Required (or Preferred) Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: 

  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Creativity
  • Curiosity (do you stay on top of trends?)
  • Basic mobile video editing skills
  • Technical familiarity with different platforms

Job Title: Student Assistant (Summer 2026) 

Job description: Cal Poly Theatre Arts is seeking to hire two (2) Student Assistants for portions of Summer 2026. These positions will report directly to the Technical Director and assist with a variety of departmental infrastructure and facilities-related projects.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support infrastructure improvement projects within Theatre Arts facilities
  • Assist with theatre lab and scene shop maintenance
  • Organize, maintain, and relocate equipment, materials, and inventory
  • Support storage management and inventory control efforts
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with carpentry
  • Experience with welding
  • Experience with painting
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to consistently lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in a shop, warehouse, and theatre production environment
