Cal Poly Theatre & Dance invites all currently enrolled Cal Poly students, regardless of major or previous theatre experience, to audition for our Spring musical. Students of all backgrounds, identities, and experience levels are encouraged to audition.

Please read the entire HAIR libretto in advance of auditions. Print copies are available on the table outside the Theatre & Dance office; digital copy available here.

Audition Date: Sunday, November 8th

Location: Building 45, Room 212

Time: 6:30pm

Please wear clothing and shoes you feel comfortable to dance in. (Avoid jewelry, large belts, etc.) 

Callbacks Date: Monday, November 9th and Tuesday November 10th

Location: Building 45, Room 212

Time: 6:30pm-10pm

What to Prepare

Actors will be called back for vocal auditions. You may arrive at any time and will be seen individually in the order of your arrival.

Please prepare up to 32 bars from ANY song in the show that best demonstrates your vocal range. You will not need to provide sheet music; you will need to tell the accompanist the measure numbers of the section you'd like to sing based on the piano/conductor score, available here. Additionally, you may be called back to read short sides on Tuesday.

Vocal Range: Tenor (A2-F#4)

Berger
Vocal Range: Tenor (A2-B4)

Sheila
Vocal Range: Mezzo Soprano/Alto/Belter (G3-D5, optional E5)

Dionne*
Vocal Range: Mezzo Soprano/Belter (F4-F#5)

Hud*
Vocal Range: Baritone (B2-F4, optional G4)

Woof
Vocal Range: Tenor/High Baritone (D3-G4; optional D5)

Jeanie
Vocal Range: Alto (G3-G4)

Crissy
Vocal Range: Mezzo Soprano/Alto (A3-C5)

Margaret Mead
Vocal Range: historically tenor (E3-A4), though this is a part that could be cast with actors of any gender; notably, a strong lyric soprano with an A5 could sing this part up the octave without need to transpose the score.

Notes on Content

This musical contains sexual content, depictions of drug use, violence, and use of racial slurs and stereotypes. We will approach all topics from a critical point of view in process and production.
